“TRUST, QUALITY AND CONTINUOUS SUPPORT” “We consider the companies and individuals that want to build a milling facility as our business partners not solely as customers. In this regard, we shall not offer alternatives which are profitable for us but not rewarding for them. We think that the basic principles for building a long-term business relation are trust, quality and continuous support. We intensively deal with our business partners in every process beginning from purchase and assembly and continuing after delivering the factory; we wholeheartedly try to fulfil all of their needs. What distinguish us from our competitors and bring value-added benefits to our business partners are the authentic technological systems such as ProSupport and SmartLub. Furthermore, it is definitely an important factor that we are the company with highest quality/price rate.”
This month, our guest is Mustafa ÖZDEMİR, General Manager of Imas Makine Sanayi A.Ş. which is among the biggest companies of milling technologies industry. For 27 years, Imas Machinery has been producing turn-key milling systems and technologies to process grains such as wheat, corn, rye, oat and barney into flour and semolina with Milleral trademark; in addition to Milleral trademark, Imas offers turn-key facilities and equipment for feed industry under Viteral trademark and also sawing machines with Cuteral trademark. ÖZDEMİR states that they consider the companies and individuals that want to build a milling facility as their business partners not only as customers and he also underlines that intensively deal with their business partners in every process beginning from purchase and assembly and after delivering the factory by trying to fulfil all their needs. With Imas Machinery General Manager Mustafa Özdemir, we talked about the technological solutions by Imas Machinery, technical services, educational opportunities, future objectives and the concept of “innovation” in milling. We will learn the details about this subject from Mustafa Özdemir.
Mr. Ozdemir, Imas Machinery is one of the leading trademarks in milling technologies industry. First of all, could you tell us the story of Imas Machinery and how the trademark gained today’s success?
Imas Makine Sanayi A.Ş. was established in 1989 within the structure of Ittifak Holding, which is a company rising from Anatolia and successfully operates in the most important industries of Turkey. For 27 years, Imas Machinery has been operating in building and establishing turn-key milling systems and technologies to process grains such as wheat, corn, rye, oat and barney into flour and semolina with Milleral trademark; we offer high technology products and highly productive facilities. Thanks to our after-sales services, we endeavour to be worthy of our customers’ trust and precisely fulfil the needs of our business partners. Moreover, we offer products, facilities and services that can address to the needs of entire world from Middle East to Central Asia, from South America to Africa; and we also provide productivity-oriented consultancy services with our expert team.
Since the day we were established, our journey has proceeded with Milleral and we continued to our growth by adding Viteral to this journey in April 2015. In this way, we bring our experience in milling industry to cattle and small cattle feeding industry. Under Viteral trademark, we produce turn-key facilities and equipment for feed industry and we act with the consciousness of maximum customer satisfaction. With our other brand, Cuteral, we offer high-quality sawing machines such as angled, semi- and full-automatic, hinged, columned and PLC.
We, as Imas Machinery, owe our competitiveness in our active industries to our product quality and expert team. The working culture that we learn from Ittifak Holding and our strong capital structure helps us to reach our improvement and growth objectives. Sustainability, innovation, environmentalism, globalization, information management and specialization are our core principles. In the light of these principles, we carry on our works with the aim of producing innovative products and services, creating value-added benefits for our customers thanks to our professional team.
Could you tell us about the technological solutions which are directly offered by Imas? We already know that you offer turn-key solutions to your customers, yet are there any technologies that are directly created and performed by Imas Machinery?
Our entire product range can be defined with excellent product quality and technology that is pioneering for their industries. We provide products for our customers to help them work with highest productivity rates in their organizations and also we serve them turn-key facilities which are created by high engineering. As I have already mentioned, we, as Imas Machinery, manufacture in three different groups with Milleral, Viteral and Cuteral. Within the body of Milleral, we establish factories of wheat, corn, soy, rye, oat, barney flour and semolina. We, as Viteral, establish factories which produce complete animal feed and also produce every kind of machinery for these factories. Under the roof of Milleral, we manufacture milling section machines such as roll, sieves, semolina purifier; cleaning section machines such as garbage purifier, destoner; automation-oriented machines such as performance scale, automatic tempering machine; and transportation equipment such as elevator and spiral. Of course, these are only the aspects of machinery and equipment. Our actual production is about system diagrams that we create exclusively for each customer and machine layout. What is featured with our Viteral trademark is pellet, mixer, cooler and stock tracking automation.
What could you say about the improvements that you succeed in milling industry and your innovative solutions in your company’s history of a quarter century?
“Air Stabilization System” that we developed as a result of our R&D studies provides significant improvements in milling performance. By decreasing the cinder rate, this system can increase the performance up to 1 percent and it becomes one of the R&D achievements of Imas Machinery in parallel with the sector improvement. Furthermore, we manufactured “Servo Pneumatical Rolls” with our own patent and we put “Automatic Tempering Machine with Automatic Humid and Flow Control System” into the service of milling factories. We have obtained positive results. Last but not least, we actualized automatic and projected lubrication system SmartLub in order to increase the productivity of facilities and machinery in milling industry and decrease the spare parts and maintenance costs. SmartLub is a smart lubrication system that can be integrated into milling facilities. Whether the facility in question is using Milleral products or not, this system has the feature of working with complete integration and provides the advantages of lubricating properly and on time.
Could you inform us about your role, place and share in milling market in both Turkish and worldwide milling industry? Could you tell us how many countries that you have reached to until today and how many turn-key flour factories have been established by IMAS?
As you already know, Turkey is placed on the second rank with Switzerland following China in the milling machines exportation. IMAS is one of the outstanding manufacturers and exporters of milling machinery and systems in Turkey. IMAS Machinery attained a place in the list of first 1000 companies in exportation in 2015. We, as IMAS, perform our sales in more than 70 countries up until now. Every year we establish 15 or 20 turn-key facilities.
Could you inform us about your organization abroad? In which countries do you have agencies, partnerships or offices?
We have powerful business partners abroad who have a brilliant knowledge of regional needs, know about regional people and culture, who can easily accommodate themselves with Imas working culture and approaches. This is exactly the most powerful feature of Imas. We serve to the industry with our business partners in many different locations including North and South America, Turkic Republics, South-eastern Asia and Africa. In the industries with intensive competition and precious timing like milling, it is important to have no defect in production. So, any probable fault must be solved as soon as possible. Could you inform us about the service provided by Imas to its customers about technical issues? For example, how long it takes to serve technical support system for the furthest point that you work with?
We are aware of the fact that any loss of production lasting for an hour may cost a huge money in this industry. So, we established ProSupport team within our company to follow spare parts and technical support. With this team, we can connect online to our customer’s facility and if it is necessary, we can send our related technical team to the factory as soon as possible. We can actualize this technical support with our local shareholders or sometimes with our own team that we send from Turkey.
For a productive manufacturing process, education is as important as technology. The technologies you manufactured may be improved and very successful; yet if they are not used properly, reaching the objectives might be problematic. Do you provide education sessions for employees who work in production after completing a factory or installing a machine? Could you possibly inform us your works in this issue?
Education is an indispensable part of the milling industry as it is in every kind of work. Within this framework, we deliver to our customers operating and maintenance manuals including spare parts information together with the products and facilities. Moreover, upon completing and delivering the facility, we practically convey all the necessary technical data for using the machines and for producing flour and semolina up to the demanded quality by the mill. Apart from these, we help our customers who just took a step in milling industry to form a qualified team for their organization.
Today the competitive conditions force technology producers to move fast and actively. Any kind of technological product can easily become worn out in a very short period. In this case, it becomes necessary to follow the innovations all the time in order not to lose strength in the market. Does this situation also apply for milling industry? In the present conditions, what is the average life-span of a new milling technology? How long does a technology stay as “innovation”?
With the technology, the expectations of our customers keep inevitably changing day by day. The milling industry also gets its share from this fast change, yet I think that the change in this industry is below the average change rate in the world. I believe that the life-span of a new technology is about 7-10 years. However, our objective is to create difference all the time by presenting innovative products and services beyond the expectations of the customers.
Creating the rapid change and innovative improvement of digital technology in the milling industry must require difficult and serious R&D works. What are your studies on this issue as Imas? Could you inform us about your R&D work and allocated budget for R&D? Can you tell us on which subjects you focus on your R&D works?
While doing our R&D work, we give importance to the studies that increase user-friendliness of the products and providing added-value benefits to the customer. I can easily say that we are among the companies which invest more in R&D. We show systematic solutions, new improvements in machinery and innovative approaches.
Let’s talk about the recent improvements of your company and the gains of these improvements for the industry. What are the new technologies that you want to provide for millers in the following period?
In fact, we always achieve improvements and developments in our products and engineering approaches. In this way, we have the change of providing quality and productive products and services day by day. In addition to this, ProSupport, the unique 7/24 technical support and spare parts system of the sector is our most important brand with a real difference in the industry. Our brand-new technologic system is called SmartLub. With this system, we manage the lubrication procedures of our facilities with an automatic control and we demolish the costs arising from abrasion, contamination and breakdown.
What are the reasons for millers to choose IMAS technologies? What kind of advantages would be available when a miller chooses your company to innovate its technology or establish a new factory? In short, what do you promise to the millers?
We consider the companies and individuals that want to build a milling facility as our business partners not solely as customers. Furthermore, it is definitely an important factor that we are the company with highest quality/price rate.
Finally, what would you like to say about your future goals? 2016 is the year in which we move to our new factory in 4th Organized Industrial Zone. This new place will be 2.5 times bigger than our current factory; and with this change the journey of IMAS and our Milleral brand to the top will be much more accelerated. Moreover, our Viteral brand that we used for feed machinery and facilities will seriously support our journey to the peak.
